Ubisoft retreats from VR endeavors following lackluster sales of Assassin's Creed Nexus

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated the company would not be boosting its virtual reality (VR) investments, as sales for Assassin's Creed Nexus VR, a Meta Quest exclusive launched in November 2023, did not meet expectations. The game allows players to embody iconic characters such as Ezio, Kassandra, and Connor but was conspicuously absent from the company's third-quarter earnings announcement.

During an earnings call, Guillemot, addressing an inquiry about the company's VR strategy, noted that Ubisoft will not be increasing its VR investments due to the technology's failure to gain widespread adoption. He expressed disappointment with the performance of Assassin's Creed in the VR domain, particularly the lackluster sales of Nexus VR. Guillemot remarked that while the game performed adequately, it fell short of sales projections, leading the company to halt any further financial commitments to VR for the time being.
