Starfield Prepares to Roll Out Ground-breaking Vehicle Update and Future Enhancements
02 May 2024
Following the recent update in May for Starfield, Bethesda is already hinting at future additions to the game, with a significant emphasis on the addition of the game's premiere ground-based transport.
Bethesda has just revealed details of the upcoming May update for Starfield, yet it is the peek into the future that is capturing attention. The developers have highlighted upcoming significant updates which entail the introduction of a vehicle designed for rapid exploration of planetary surfaces, support for mods directly within Starfield, and an expansive new chapter titled Shattered Space. Over the next few months, the team promises to unveil further details. The exact release date for the vehicle remains unconfirmed, excluding its integration in the update scheduled for May 15.
A snippet showcasing the vehicle in motion is featured in a development diary video, noticeable at the 4:42 timestamp. Although this is just a glimpse into its development stage, it appears we'll be receiving a sort of all-terrain rover offering direct control for navigating across planetary terrains. Tim Lamb, the senior producer, refers to this as the first vehicle of its kind for on-ground exploration in Starfield, suggesting that more varieties may be introduced down the line.
This introduction marks a milestone not just for Starfield, but for Bethesda as a whole, setting a precedent as it's the company's initial venture into vehicular mechanics within a game, barring expansive interpretations of equine transportation. Prior to the launch of Starfield, Todd Howard indicated in an interview that incorporating vehicles might fundamentally alter gameplay dynamics. It seems any challenges that were presented have since been addressed.
After an eight-month interval post-launch, Starfield is set to enhance its gameplay with the implementation of detailed surface mapping, marking it as the most substantial update the game has seen to date.
