Slack is enhancing its platform with a new feature powered by artificial intelligence. The upcoming capability, known as AI file summary, aims to provide concise overviews of documents uploaded to the service. This tool is designed to assist users in grasping the essential points of dense texts quickly. As the feature is still in development, it may not be accessible to current users. Once launched, it is anticipated that availability might be restricted to those with a paid subscription and the AI add-on.

According to a recent report, this feature was discovered during a teardown of the application package for the Slack app on Android. The examination revealed code that not only defined the feature's potential uses but also identified various limitations associated with it.

The findings suggest that the AI capability could appear as a dedicated section in the platform, allowing users to upload documents and receive brief summaries. Users will have the option to share these summaries when forwarding files to different conversations. Notably, there is an indication that users might choose to disable these summaries when sharing content.

Additionally, it was pointed out that the AI file summary function may face restrictions based on file size or the amount of text present. Specific thresholds for these limitations are not yet disclosed. Moreover, only select file formats are expected to be compatible, with password-protected documents not qualifying for summaries. It is likely that formats such as PDF, Word, and Text will be supported initially.
