A New Sony Studio May Be In The Works

Gossip within the gaming circles indicates that Sony might be on the cusp of introducing a new internal studio created with key members from the now-defunct Deviation Games. A tip-off originated from the observant Twitter user, who noticed that a group of former Deviation Games staff, including design head Fred Thompson, have subtly changed their LinkedIn profiles to show they're working on a mysterious Sony project.

Insider Gaming has further stirred speculation with a report on game designer JCBackfire's tweet about their latest employer, Jason Blundell. Known for co-founding Deviation Games, Blundell exited the studio abruptly in 2022, leaving the gaming community puzzled. Although he was given a formal send-off that recognized his contributions, the specifics behind his departure were never made clear.

Blundell's extensive background with the Call of Duty franchise, particularly with its campaign and the highly successful Zombies mode—which was once highlighted by General Manager Johanna Faries as "the best-rated third mode in a decade"—could be highly advantageous for Sony. His potential involvement, especially when paired with the influx of other former Deviation Games personnel, hints at the assembly of a robust creative force.

Despite rumors cropping up about planned workforce reductions at other renowned PlayStation studios, such as Insomniac Games, one can't jump to conclusions on how this may relate to Sony's purported new project. The industry operates in complex ways; what may seem like a contraction in one area could lead to expansion in another.

Awaiting official confirmation, the gaming scene can only speculate about the nature of the project that this team is currently developing. Yet, the prospect of a studio led by Blundell, filled with veterans from Deviation Games, proposes an exciting development for the gaming industry.

As the community keeps an eye out for confirmation, it remains hopeful and supportive. Failure is always heartbreaking in the gaming world, but witnessing a resilient comeback or the rise of a new success is rewarding and inspiring.
